Tyre Centre bowls day raising money for the hall
BOWLS: An afternoon of social bowls to celebrate a 10th anniversary proved to be a big hit at Monto Bowls Club.
Monto Tyre Centre kicked off its 10th year in business with a well attended day out of social bowling.
Tyre Centre owner Brett Avis said they'd been using the club for a number of years as a way of promoting their business and drumming up funding for town initiatives.
"We always put a bowls day on every year and a golf day; it's just for customers, suppliers, and to help out the clubs,” Avis said.
"I'm average as a bowler, and only play in these sort of social days.”
The event coincided with a funeral wake, and ended up starting later than expected, at 2.30pm.
Plenty of people stayed behind for social bowls and a barbecue.
This year, money raised at the event went towards the Mulgildie Hall, which will be holding their 80th birthday celebration dance in April.
They raffled off a lawn mower valued at $429 for the hall, along with a wheelbarrow filled with prizes.
Kerri Lette won the mower, while Bob Kerr won the wheelbarrow.
The overall winners of the social bowls game were Cam Hill, Keith Roth, and Ted Barker.
Ultimately, they managed to raise just over $330 for the hall, with a driving competition held in the afternoon raising $78, while the rest came form the raffle prizes.
Brett's father Bill, whose wife Beryl is part of the Mulgildie Hall Committee, said the fundraising would help greatly with the upcoming 80th birthday celebration dance being held in April.
"Absolutely a good hall, they're really happy about it,” he said.
"With the 80th birthday coming up, they've painted the hall and got some lights installed, so between that and insurance, everything should be set for the 80th.”
The Mulgildie Hall 80th Birthday Celebration Dance will be held on April 14, 7.30pm start.
