Gladstone mum needs help after brutal home intrusion attack

A GLADSTONE mum, 23, faces six weeks in a Brisbane hospital after she was brutally attacked in her Glen Eden home last week.

Kayleyy McAlister suffered multiple head and face fractures after an intruder broke into the house and attacked her with a didgeridoo on Thursday night.

Now she is in the intensive care unit at a Brisbane hospital.

Her grandmother, Jo Williams, has shared updates on Facebook, saying Ms McAlister will spend the next six weeks in the neurology ward.

On Tuesday, she was taken off her ventilator and is now able to breathe on her own.

"She has an amazing team of doctors, intensive care team, ophthalmologist team and the trauma team headed by Professor Wall," her grandmother wrote on Facebook.

"It will be six months before she can hopefully return to a normal life.

"There is risk of infection and pneumonia but that risk is low."

A man has been charged in relation to the assault. He faces two counts of causing grievous bodily harm; and entering a building with intent uses/threaten violence.
