Wall to honour North Burnett town’s early settlers
IT’S all systems go for the Wall of Fame project in Beiers Park at Biggenden to commemorate early settlers of the 4621 postcode.
Moira Thompson, who has spearheaded the project, said thanks to funding allocated from the Biggenden Drought Communities program, so it’s full steam ahead.
The most recent meeting after a number of inquiries discussed wheelchair access via a concrete path to the wall and the heritage signs.
The working group walked the park to look at options for wheelchair access.
Mrs Thompson said IQS Solution had been chosen to deliver the signage work due to the short time frame to deliver this project by June 30 this year,” she said.
“To date we have received 25 photographs but there are at least another 40 to come.
“Now the group needs to hear from families asking for their high-resolution jpeg images and the family write up.”
To offset expenses families wishing to remember ancestors have been asked to contribute $200 per photograph.
Mrs Thompson said the signs will be spread throughout Beiers Park providing a shady stroll for visitors.
“The wording for the wall is ‘Biggenden’s Wall of Fame’ and underneath ‘Our Local Pioneers’,”she said.
The group have been able to access a 1920 map which will be used in the raised area to become a 2.4 metre wall with a base of 12 metres behind the present flag pole.
Mrs Thompson said it will be a project that can added to through time.
