War memorials being upgraded

NORTH Burnett War Memorial Rolls of Honour are undergoing upgrades as part of the Upgrade and Cleaning of War Memorials in the North Burnett project.

The project is being funded through the Queensland Government's ANZAC Centenary Lasting Legacies grant program in line with Department of Environment and Heritage Protection guidelines.

North Burnett Regional Council mayor Rachel Chambers said the upgrades would include cleaning, polishing of the marble and metal plates, repainting missing letters and coating the bronze plaque with protective enamel.

"In some cases, metal plaques and fencing will be temporarily removed for cleaning and restoration,” Cr Chambers said.

"Every effort is being taken to ensure the project is completed according to State Government guidelines and community expectations.

"Residents may notice the plaques and fencing being temporarily removed, however I can assure residents that this is the most efficient and effective way to complete this delicate task.”

Eight war memorials have been included in the project including Biggenden, Degilbo, Eidsvold, Gayndah, Gooroolba, Monto, Mt Perry and Mundubbera.
