What made the male doctors wear lipstick?
BIGGENDEN Medical Centre's doctors have lived up to their promise of wearing lipstick for a day.
Dr Dani Buchanan and Dr Gerry Guimaraes said they would pucker up if the Liptember event raised more than $500.
In fact after Sunday's Liptember lunch held at the Grand Hotel, $1850 was raised.
Monday saw Dr Gerry wearing a lovely shade of mauve while Dr Dani favoured the Aussie colours of green and gold.
Organiser Gale Aberderin was overwhelmed at the amount raised in support of women's mental health.
"This is a wonderful effort for our little community,” she said.
Following Sunday's lunch attended by 60, Ms Aberdein said it was generous of the Grand Hotel to donate $5 from each meal towards the cause.
"They were very accommodating and helpful,” she said.
Publican Stuart Toms wasn't too sure about wearing lipstick but would only if it was green in support of his favourite footy team, the Raiders.
Guest speaker Kylie Slack of Gayndah spoke on women's mental health while the question and answers proved fruitful.
The fashion parade by Deb's Country Outfitters was a crowd pleaser while the finale saw the McAskill brothers, Lucas and Angus highlighting the store is now selling men's underwear. The young models had their makeup done with the compliments of makeup artist Amber Hurst.
Mrs Aberdein said at any point in our lives, anxiety and depression resenates with a lot of women.
"Research into women's mental health has been taken from men's research,” she said .
"They are trying to make it more specific to women, hence these promotions.”
Mrs Aberdein said the day was something positive for the community
"It has put the awareness of mental health out there,” she said.
