Wilsonton man found with 200g of cannabis and $5500 cash

A 23-YEAR-OLD Wilsonton man with no criminal history had been found with 200g of cannabis and more than $5500 cash.

Police had turned up at the Wilsonton residence of James Kelly Linnewebber-Couper on January 9 armed with a search warrant, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

They found two large plastic bags containing 200g of “green leafy material” that looked and smelt like cannabis, police prosecutor Senior Constable Narelle Lowe told the court.

Police also found $5535 in cash, she said.

Linnewebber-Couper pleaded guilty to possessing a dangerous drug and tainted property (money).

His solicitor Nathan Bouchier said his client had been going through a stressful time while his partner was away and was using cannabis heavily.

His client had endured a difficult childhood and had been placed in foster homes after his mother died and his father was imprisoned, he said.

Just before this incident, his father had been staying with his client who had eventually asked him to leave, Mr Bouchier said.

However, since his arrest he had been attending counselling and through references his employer and others spoke highly of him, he said.

His client was still young with good prospects of rehabilitation, Mr Bouchier submitted.

Magistrate Graham Lee placed the 23-year-old on 18 months probation with no convictions recorded.

Mr Lee ordered the cash and drugs be forfeited to the Crown.
