AN INTERSTATE truck driver has been charged with driving under the influence of liquor or a drug and failing to take care with a syringe or needle after he was caught on CCTV in Brisbane on Friday.

A Queensland Police spokesman said officers attended Spine St at Sumner Park around 11.45am on Friday after the driver tried unsuccessfully to reverse his heavy vehicle.

Witnesses said the manoeuvre caused the heavy vehicle to jackknife, and police were called after the driver exited the cab and began acting erratically.

The 41-year-old man from Victoria was charged with driving under the influence of liquor or a drug, and with failing to take reasonable care with a syringe or needle.

He will appear in the Brisbane Magistrate's Court in June.

Police said a blood sample was taken for analysis, and that further charges could be laid.
