'WIT'S END': Vandals continue to target showgrounds

MONTO Show Society members are fed up after showground facilities were once again targeted by a spray can-wielding vandal.

Show Society secretary Amy Smith said members were at their wit's end.

"It's not the first time, and I doubt it will be the last time either,” Mrs Smith said.

Graffiti started appearing at the showgrounds before Christmas, and she said there had "easily” been at least five or six separate incidents, each featuring the same tags.

Vandals have sprayed their tags all over the showgrounds since targeting the site, including on the bar block, toilet block, main arena fence, and what the members call the "ambulance shed”.

Mrs Smith said she wasn't taking the vandalism personally, but it was "disappointing” for everyone.

"This is public property, it doesn't bode well for the community,” she said.

Her biggest concern is tourists using Monto Showgrounds' dump point will drive past and see the graffiti.

"It's a reflection on the town,” Mrs Smith said.

She has filed a Policelink report and has received confirmation the report was forwarded to Monto police.

The station was contacted for comment.
