Her career was selling stolen items on eBay, court told

A STRUGGLING Verrierdale mother flogged more than $36,000 worth of stolen property in hundreds of transactions on eBay over seven years.

The Maroochydore Magistrates Court was told Andrea Jane Juster, 40, was virtually running a business stealing and then selling the stolen property.

Over seven years, she made about $25,000 profit from 222 eBay transactions.

Prosecutor Tegan Smith said Juster's modus operandi was stealing small items of high value and then listing them for sale.

Juster targeted major hardware retailer Bunnings, camping giant BCF, and Billabong, Ripcurl and Quiksilver factory direct outlets.

Juster continued her exploits while on probation after being caught shoplifting locks from Bunnings.

Juster's lawyer, Chelsea Emery, said it was unlikely police would have been able to uncover the extent of the offending if her client had not been as forthcoming.

Ms Emery said Juster committed the crimes out of "need not greed".

Injury and illness prevented Juster's builder husband from working, leaving her the sole income earner and also responsible for caring for him and their two children, Ms Emery said.

Magistrate Annette Hennessy accepted that the impact on Juster's family would be "catastrophic" and she would be unable to pay restitution if she was jailed and unable to work.

Juster, who pleaded guilty to 14 charges of fraud and stealing, was sentenced to terms of up to two years' jail, immediately suspended, and ordered to pay more than $36,000 restitution.
