Woman shoulder-barged in shock Brisbane attack

A YOUNG woman has spoken for the first time after being knocked unconscious in Brisbane City on the eve of her 21st birthday.

The Brisbane woman told Brisbane Times of the "fast-paced footsteps" she heard before a middle-aged man collided with her, knocking her skull into a bench and leaving her in hospital.

"My first contact with the ground was my head hitting the corner of a concrete bench outside one of those garden beds, which obviously knocked me unconscious and I came to probably 20 or 30 seconds later," she told Fairfax Media.

The attack left an inch-long gash on her head, which took weeks to heal.

She said the trigger for the otherwise unprovoked attack was her friend joking "Don't drink my drink, we're coming back" as they left the bar for a cigarette.

She had been drinking with friends at the Pig 'N' Whistle in King George Square on Friday February 5.

Queensland Police have now released a low-resolution image of a man they wish to question.
