Witnesses come forward after fiery Toowoomba crash

UPDATE: Police continue to seek a man who fled the scene of a harrowing single vehicle crash on Bridge St early Saturday morning that left his female passenger lying injured in the middle of the road.

A public appeal for information has yielded a number of calls resulting in leads for police that are continuing to investigate the incident.

Part of that investigation is believed to be whether the vehicle involved had been engaged in illegal street racing leading up to the crash about 2.20am Saturday.

The Forensic Crash Unit scoured the scene and the burnt-out shell of the vehicle which was left lying in the middle of the street after it rolled.

The 26-year-old female passenger had been thrown from the vehicle and was found by emergency services lying in the middle the street.

She was taken to Toowoomba Hospital for treatment of leg injuries.

Four people have contacted police in relation to the incident including one call received via Crime Stoppers.

EARLIER: THE Forensic Crash Unit is investigating following a serious single vehicle traffic crash in Toowoomba this morning.

At about 2.20am a car travelling on Bridge St left the road and crashed into a power pole before catching fire.

Emergency services attended and treated a 26-year-old female passenger who was travelling in the vehicle at the time.

She was taken to Toowoomba Hospital with serious leg injuries and remains in a stable condition.

The male driver left the scene of the crash before police arrived.

Police are still looking to speak with him.

No one else was injured during the crash.

BREAKING: A 26-YEAR-OLD woman was found lying in the middle of the road after she was thrown through the windscreen of a car.

The vehicle she was travelling in crashed at 2.20am this morning after the male driver lost control and hit a light pole.

When emergency services arrived on scene, the driver had already fled. 

The woman was taken to Toowoomba Hospital with a serious leg injury.

The driver is still yet to be located.
