A FUEL tank spill and a severe storm cell resulted in casualties and a missing person in Monto.

That was the scenario for an emergency exercise by the Local Disaster Management Sub-Group Monto on March 2.

About 45 participants were involved including SES members, fire service and ambulance personnel, Ergon Energy staff and North Burnett Regional Council officers.

LDMSG Monto chairman Paul Lobegeier said the two-hour exercise was to test response levels of the emergency staff.

"In the scenario, a third of the roofs had blown in Monto and Mulgildie and we needed to evacuate," he said.

"We used the shire hall as the evacuation centre.

"All those involved performed extremely well.

"We had SES personnel come up from the whole of the North Burnett region so they could familiarise themselves with the area should an emergency take place."

The local cadets volunteered their time to act as casualties.

"Those involved treated the event not as fun, but a chance to enhance their skills," Cr Lobegeier said.

"We've also identified areas of weakness.

"One of them is intercommunication."
